Notes |
Rev. Glenn Moehring related the following about his father's coming to Texas: In 1933 his father Rev. Earl Moehring was living and serving in Philo, Ohio, when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. He was advised to go to the TB hospital in San Antonio, Texas--Grace Lutheran Sanatorium. He lived at the sanatorium in one of the cottages there for 11 months when he was declared cured. Since he was unable to get a call in Ohio, he requested a call in Texas, which the American Lutheran Church, Dept. of Missions, granted him in 1935. He was sent to Del Rio, Texas, where his family in Ohio and all their possessions relocated by train. He not only served Faith Lutheran Mission in Del Rio, but also Grace Lutheran Mission in Eagle Pass; Zion Lutheran Mission in Alpine, TX; and Zion Lutheran Mission in Bracketville, TX. He subsequently served other small congregations in South Texas including Lockney, Happy, Jourdanton, McCoy, Los Angeles, Encinal, Beeville, and Normana. |
