Earlier congregations in the area were served by Rev. Louis Erdrenburg (Ervendberg) and Rev. J. E. Bergmann and later there was St. Nicolai Lutheran Church and cemetery at New Berg served by ministers from Frelsburg, New Ulm and Sealy and included Rev. M.J. Scaer (LCMS) of Sealy. In 1927. The former Nicolai Congregation transferred all their church property to St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring. For a time St. John and St. Peters Lutheran Church of Peters, Texas, formed a two point parish and were later joined by a congregation in Wallis. Muehlheim or Millheim community was near Cat Spring.
