Maxwell was also known as Kegley Hill (or Kegel Hill) and New Martindale. Missionary Pastor Kreuzenstein organized Lutheran services at Kegley Hill in 1885 and installed Pastor Carl Aepler in May 1886 and instructed him to organize congregations at Plum Creek and Kegley Hill. Ebenezer was organized June 3, 1886. History says T.H. Hummel from Castroville was interim pastor in 1887-1888. There was a Gebhard Wilhelm Hummel in Castroville at that time. |
