The church at Fayetteville started with members of St. John Lutheran Church at Ross Prairie. When that congregation moved to Ellinger in, Fayetteville started its own St. John Lutheran Church which was later renamed St. Paul Lutheran Church. In 2017, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Fayetteville is part of a Shared Lutheran Ministry of Fayette County along with St. John Lutheran Church of Ellinger, St. John Lutheran Church of Rutersville, and St. John Lutheran Church of Warrenton - in Texas.
