Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is located in Woodland Heights. Pastor Ander and Pastor Harder (Missionaries to the Houston area) started several congregations. St. Paulus (Paul) Lutheran in Sunset Heights located near what is 2017 is 28th St. and N. Main (earlier may have been Houston St. or Studemont) started meeting in a butcher shop in 1914. Land was given and a building was erected in 1915 but was moved in 1917 to Zion Lutheran when the two congregations merged. The other congregations that were served around 1914 thru 1917? were St. Johannes (John) in Waller, North Side Lutheran Church in 5th Ward Houston, and a congregation in Algoa, Texas. Sponsored a task force in 1983 which led to the development of a mission Hispanic congregation, Iglesia Evangelica Luterana El Redentor ca 1986. This mission merged with North Side Lutheran Church in 1989 and became Iglesia Evangelica Luterana El Redentor de Northside at 2314 Cochran in Houston.
