This box contains historical documents in 19 folders pertaining to Lutheran General Hospital, the origin of which was Grace Lutheran Sanatorium, a tuberculosis rehabilitation facility on the west side of San Antonio, Texas. Documents were gathered for the Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in 1989. A list of all documents is contained in the first folder; the documents listed are not in chronological order. Two folders contain information about the Christmas Seal fund-raising effortrs; and miscellaneous documents of interest. Also in this folder is the Christmas Seal commemorating the 55th anniversary of Lutheran General Hospital and a ledger which contains a record of the legacies, bequests, and endowments received by Grace Lutheran Sanatorium during the years 1914 through 1943. Virgil Ganz sent to his parents when he was a student at Wartburg Seminary; program of the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Herman and Lena Ochs Center of Grace Lutheran Hospital, Sunday, July 11, 1965; article from newsletter at Grace Lutheran Hospital concerning the fund raising efforts of Grace Lutheran Church on the hospital's behalf, dated March 12, 1965; article from the Grace Lutheran Hospital newsletter dated Spring 1971 about the death of Herman Ochs, detailing his dedication to the work of Grace Lutheran Sanatorium, then Grace Lutheran Hospital; article from The Southern Lutheran dated September 1976 celebrating Lutheran General Hospital's 63rd year of operation; a newspaper article shows a picture of the Lutheran General Hospital's Chapel in 1983; a copy of the resolution presented to the Southwestern Texas Synod in assembly on May 15, 1988, to "...memorialize the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to continue its affiliation with and maintain its support of the Lutheran General Hospital and its ministry to the Hispanic Community of San Antonio, Texas"; a copy of a picture of the original cottages at Grace Lutheran Sanatorium.
