Summary |
"The purpose of this book is to gather into one resource accurate histories of the first generation of Swedish Lutheran Churches in Texas. We limit our coverage to those inmmigrant congregations that were established between 1870-1906. Moreover, since congregations do not emerge from a vacuum, we will give attention to their historical context... However, this book provides in one volume a detailed summary of the first twelve congregations, biographies of the first three pioneer pastors, a historical overview of the history of Christianity in Sweden, and a brief history of the Augustana Synod." |
Notes |
The twelve Swedish Lutheran congregations examined in this book are Palm Valley Lutheran; Gethsemane Lutheran; New Sweden Lutheran; Hutto Lutheran; Zion Lutheran; Philippi (First) Lutheran, El Campo; Eden Luthera;, Bethlehem Lutheran; Moline Lutheran; Bethel Lutheran; Grace Lutheran; and Emanuel Lutheran. Inscribed on the inside front page: To Luther, faithful servant of Christ, loving care-taker of archives, true churchman and friend. /s/ Elroy 10-20-2015 |
