ELCA Archives [1990]: 29 slides taken at the Evangelical Church in America Archives rooms [Chicago, IL; ca. 1990], taken together as a 'how-to' for church synods to set up their own archives. A description of each slide follows: 1. Archives reception area, Ms. Marion Olson, secretary 2. Researcher signing the guest register 3. Archives reference room - individual tables for several researchers plus research book collection 4. Researcher using archival materials 5. Researcher using archival materials 6. Microfilm reader/printer available to researcher 7. Staff member Rev. Thomas Rick searching in catalog for researcher inquiry 8. Rev. Rick at card catalog 9. ELCA Archives Director Elisabeth Wittman; many inquires are made by phone. 10. Rev. Rick consulting database of information regarding microfilm holdings 11. Rev. Rick--database information will eventually be available online for researchers 12. Reference room also has area for exhibits/displays 13. Rick--Materials are accessioned; form sent with items identifying them. Records are sent to archives via a records retention schedule. 16. Russell Deloney, archives staff member, refolders & boxes materials to begin arrangement and preservation. 17. ELCA Archives also has volunteers sort and file materials. Rev. Walter Wittman 18. Another volunteer, Rev. George Bernard, sorts negatives, placing them in acid free envelopes. 19. Rev. Bernard also viewed films in order to identify people and events for cataloging purposes. 20. Once organized, materials are placed in the temperature and humidity controlled vault. 21. Some items, such as microfilm, need special filing cabinets and boxes. 22. To maintain constant temperature/humidity levels, hygrometers are placed in several locations. 23. Russell Deloney checks the temperature/humidity readings each day. 24. Audio-visuals are stored separately from paper records. 25. Items need special care in filing--these films are stored improperly. 26. This is the proper method of storing films. 27.
