"Rev. H.C. Ziehe with gavel and base made with material taken from old landmarks of the Lutheran Church in Texas. The cedar head of the gavel is made from original frame work of St. Martin's Lutheran Church of Horton[s]ville[town], erected in 1851, the first Lutheran Church in Texas [disputed]. Pine from the walls was used in making the handle. The gavel will be pounded on a base-made of wood taken from the old walls of the first Lutheran College, founded in Ruetersville in 1874. The gavel and base will be presented to the Texas district American Lutheran Church annual convention to be held in Pflugersville next week." from a newspaper article |
